Wetlands of Manipur

IMPHAL, May 8 : Chief Minister N Biren has released a documentary titled "Wetlands of Manipur" produced by Forest Department, Manipur under Nature Learning Centre, National Mission on Himalayan Studies, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India.
The 20 minutes long documentary film was released in the presence Dr Suhel Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary; Kereilhouvi Angami, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest & Head of the Forest Force (PCCF-HoFF); Anurag Bajpai, Additional PCCF and Waikhom Romabai, DCF/ Research, Silviculture and Training Division, Government of Manipur.
The film focuses on the major wetlands of Manipur namely, Loktak, Zaimeng, Zeilad, Pumlen Ikop, Waithou, Lamjao, Kharung Pat, Yaral Pat etc.
The film highlights the present conditions of these wetlands, their role in maintaining the ecosystem equilibrium and supporting livelihood, bio-diversity and threats being faced by them, said a statement of State Forest Department.
The film also emphasized the socio-cultural relationship of wetlands with the Manipuri society, it continued.
