Naga People’s Front MLA Awangbow Newmai was today sworn in as a Cabinet Minister at a ceremony held at the Banquet Hall, Raj Bhavan. Governor D Najma Heptulla administered the oath of office and secrecy.
Awangbow Newmai was elected from Tamei Assembly Constituency, Tamenglong district on NPF ticket.
Speaking to some media persons soon after the swearing-in-ceremony, the newly sworn in Minister said that he is grateful to the Governor and the Chief Minister for inducting him in the Council of Ministers.
Awangbow also stated that he is grateful to the party president and colleagues for nominating him as a Ministerial candidate.
He further said that he would discharge his duties as a Minister and whatever assignment given to him with utmost sincerity. On being asked about portfolio, he said that he would graciously accept whatever portfolio is offered to him by the Chief Minister.
Awangbow Newmai is the second MLA from the NPF to be inducted in the council of Ministers in the BJP led coalition Government after L Dikho who is the PHED Minister. Newmai is also the president of the State unit of the NPF.
The NPF has a total of four MLAs in the House of 60, which currently has 59 members following the resignation and subsequent disqualification of Th Shyamkumar after the Speaker of the Assembly initiated disqualification proceedings against him following petitions from some Congress MLAs under the 6th Schedule of the Constitution. Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Ministers Th Biswajit, Dr Th Radheshyam, Karam Shyam, V Hangkhanlian, N Kayisii, L Dikho, L Jayantakumar, MLAs L Sushindro, V Vungzagin, K Leishiyo, Inner Lok Sabha MP Dr RK Ranjan, Outer Lok Sabha MP Dr Lorho Pfoze, Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu and DGP LM Khaute were present in the swearing-in ceremony.
