29000 tonnes of foodgrain

IMPHAL, May 2: During the Nation-wide lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Food Corporation of India has moved an 'unprecedented' quantity of food grain (rice) from Punjab and Haryana to Manipur through Dimapur and Jiribam railheads.
During the month of April, food grain moved from Dimapur to various FCI godowns in Manipur was 15,964 MT. The stock received by rail at Railhead Jiribam was 13,276 MT. Hence total of 29,240 MT rice was moved to the State during April, said a statement of Kamei Gongreipou, DGM (R) FCI, Regional Office, Manipur.
The total movement of stock during March was 21,347 MT. In normal time FCI moved about 15,000 MT per month to meet the requirement under normal NFSA and other welfare schemes of the Central Government. For the first time the stock level of FCI in the State reached more than 42,000 MT against the effective storage capacity of 47,000 MT.  
FCI has also delivered an 'unprecedented' quantity of 24,846 MT food grain to the State Government during April under various schemes. These include 12,284 MT under PMGKAY for April, 6,667 MT under NFSA for May, 5,508 MT under Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) and 387 MT against Other Welfare Schemes (OWS).
Total stock issued during the previous month, March was 17,347 MT. More than 32,600 MT rice are to be delivered to the State Government during the month of May. These are 6,840 MT balance of regular NFSA May quota, 13,507 MT NFSA June quota and 12,284 MT PMGKAY May quota. In addition, allocations under OMSS and OWS will also be issued as per indent of the State Government.
 Efforts are on to move more stock during May, said the FCI appreciating the untiring efforts of truck drivers, food grain handling labourers and security personnel in the public service.
