Chiulon heads to Myanmar
IMPHAL, Apr 27: Chiulon, the satellite radio transmitter fitted Amur Falcon reached Mizoram last afternoon and left for Myanmar.
After roosting the winter season in South Africa, the Amur Falcon is migrating back to its breeding ground.
Notably, five Amur Falcons including Chiulon were fitted with satellite radio transmitters in Manipur in order to study their migratory routes.
Chiulon is the first among the five particular Amur Falcons to reach the North Eastern region of India, said Wildlife Institute of India scientist Dr Suresh Kumar.
Chiulon, named after Chiulon village of Tamenglong district would reach its breeding ground early. The safe return of Chiulon to its breeding ground after migrating all the way to South Africa is a huge success, Dr Suresh Kumar remarked.
Saying that Chiulon is a ‘conservation ambassador’, Dr Suresh Kumar informed that two other satellite radio transmitter fitted Amur Falcons namely; Barak and Irang are still in Somalia.
Longleng which was also fitted with satellite radio transmitter is currently flying over Tamil Nadu, he added.
