IMPHAL, Dec 28 : Continuing with his humanitarian service towards people hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, Nishikant Singh Sapam, owner of The Sangai Express today reached out to school van drivers who have been rendered jobless.
At a simple function held at Anoubam Mandap, Sega Road, Thouda Bhabok Leikai today under the aegis of the Tengbang Marup, Keishamthong, Nishikant distributed edible items including 25 Kgs of rice each to 134 members of Keishamthong Van Drivers Association.
Apart from rice, each van driver was given two Kgs of split pea (Kangtak), two Kgs of red lentil (Masoor dal), one litre of cooking oil, two Kgs of potato, two Kgs of onion and one packet of fermented fish (Ngari).
The same edible items were also delivered to 24 van drivers who could not turn up at the gathering due to different reasons.
Speaking at the gathering, Nishikant Singh Sapam said that the little aid he gave was not enough but it was aimed at providing a little relief during this hard time.
He said that he would give more aid in future if he is in a position to do so.
One van driver namely Bachaspatimayum Bijoy compared the aid given by Nishikant to water served to a very thirsty man. He also prayed that the Almighty may bless Nishikant so that he can provide more aid to van drivers of Keishamthong who have been rendered jobless after schools were closed on account of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur former Chairman Dr Hamom Nabachandra who presided the function remarked that Nishikant Singh Sapam has been continuously helping people who have been hit hard by the pandemic and he was generous enough to build houses for homeless families.
When everything has been paralysed by the pandemic, Nishikant has been extending help to the needy with utmost sincerity, Dr Nabachandra said.
Anoubam Meghachandra who was also seated on the dais as guest of honour remarked that Nishikant Singh Sapam who has been helping needy people in his own capacity during this difficult time was once an outstanding basketball player who represented India in international tournaments.
