AITUC-MSC mourns

The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur State Committee has expressed grief over the demise of tipper truck driver Phoukeisangbam Khamba Singh following the tragic Irang Bridge collapse incident.
Following the news of recovery of the body of the deceased, the AITUC, Manipur State Committee convened an emergency meeting today at Irabot Bhawan in the presence of AITUC National vice president, Dr M Nara; State secretary, L Sotinkumar and CPI State secretariat Member, L Lala as the presidium members, said a statement of State unit AITUC.
During the meeting, L Sotinkumar opined that the responsibility of the fateful incident should be borne by NHIDCL authorities who are responsible for construction works of Barak, Irang and Makru bridges, it said.
Sotinkumar had also maintained that the construction firm should provide compensation not less than Rs 5 lakh to the bereaved family, it said. AITUC also hailed the Transporters and Drivers Council and All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union for making necessary arrangement for transportation of the body to his birthplace, Hojoi Baluhandar through an special ambulance and for providing monetary support of Rs 1 lakh.
