CCpur, Nov 2 : With the Assam-Mizoram border standoff yet to see any settlement, at least eight trucks from Mizoram reached the State though NH-102B (Guite Road) to lift fuel from Manipur.
Three trucks carrying empty LPG cylinders halted at Churachandpur town last night while another batch of 5 Oil Tankers reached here today.
Sources said the LPG trucks will get filled cylinders from Sekmai Bottling Plant while the Oil Tankers will be filled at Malom Oil Depot.
The trucks that set-off from Aizawl took close to 24 hours to reach Imphal.
When news about Mizoram sending trucks to lift essential items from the State began to circulate, various civil society organizations pulled up their sleeves for the truckers to make them feel at home. Siamsinpawlpi along with several student bodies last night put up along the road to greet the first three trucks serving them tea and snacks.
The Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) that has one of its designated camps at Songtal village on Guite Road also greeted the truckers with tea and snacks, sources said. The outfit, sources said, went further ahead with the second set of 5 oil tankers serving them dinner at their camp and opening up their lodge for the drivers who reached the village around midnight to rest for the night.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Zomi Youth Association claimed that the Joint Philanthropic Organization has decided to bear all expenses of the truckers from Mizoram and accordingly detailed its units at Sinzawl, New Kangkap and Singngat to be in touch with hotels there for the arrangement.
Hotel owners who serve and lodge the drivers have been asked to maintain the bills and send them to JPO for payment, the statement said.
