IMPHAL, Oct 24: The Rongmei Naga Students’ Organization, Manipur (RNSOM) and All Inpui Students’ Union (AISU) have urged the State Government to send all the sanctioned posts, including specialists and lab technicians in all the district hospitals, CHCs and PHCs of Noney and Tamenglong districts.
Addressing a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, RNSOM president Daichui Gangmei asserted that the people of the two districts are facing untold inconvenience in seeking healthcare services due to lack of doctors and staff.
He went on to inform that the absence of specialist doctors like gynaecologists, paediatricians and medicine doctors in the Government health facilities of Tamenglong and Noney districts has compelled the people of the two districts to bear illness/ailments at their own risks or to go to Imphal or some other places where necessary health care facilities could be availed.
As specialist doctors are limited in the State,  RNSOM will not oppose even if the doctors had to work in the two districts on a rotational basis, he suggested and further demanded the State Government and the authority concerned to make operation theatres in the districts fully functional too.
Daichui pointed out that constant transferring of lab technicians from Noney and Tamenglong to other districts are affecting the quality of medical services there.
Saying that certain hospitals, CHCs and PHCs in the two districts are lacking ambulance drivers, sweepers, chowkidars, Daichui urged all concerned to look into the matter and also depute at least four Medical Officers for the said hospitals at the earliest.
He lamented that the shortage of specialists in Tamenglong and Noney districts has even led to the occurrence of many preventable accidents like deaths of pregnant women and children.
He then urged the Government to send the required sanctioned posts in the district hospitals, CHCs and PHCs of Tamenglong and Noney districts at the earliest.
Commenting on the holding of ADC elections in Tamenglong and Noney districts, the RNSOM president said that the State Government should take the risks of increasing COVID-19 cases in the districts or defer it for another six months.
