Thousands throng sacred shrine at Barak River

Jirimukh, Jan 5: Thousands of devotees, especially from Assam and Manipur, thronged Khwairakpa Erel Umanglai Nongpok Ningthou Khuvam (formerly known as Narandhore Baba) to worship at the sacred shrine located on a small island in Barak River, Lakhipur Cachar, Assam.
Speaking to media persons, ex-president of Khwairakpa Erel Umanglai Ngaksel Lup (KEUNL), Cachar, Yumnam Nadiachand Singh said that the popularity of the shrine is growing progressively.
Saying that the sacred site is also providing a platform for the Manipuri people to meet their friends and relatives who have settled at Assam, he exuded confidence that the shrine will attract more visitors in the future.
He then appealed both the Assam and Manipur Governments to establish a tourist spot at the place.
On the other hand, Vice-Chairman of Manipur Food Industries Corporation Limited, K Saratkumar said "at one time the devotees faced many inconveniences in visiting the shrine, however, due to the joint effort of the State Government, District Police and KEUNL, devotees can reach the area without difficulty."
Continuing that he and Jiribam Administration have requested the Chief Minister N Biren to take up developmental works at the site to beautify the place and for further convenience of the visitors, he lauded the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers for sending Directors of Art & Culture and Tourism at the sacred site.
