IMPHAL, Sep 1: While decrying the downward revision of pay band and grade pay of Graduate Teachers, the All Manipur Graduate Teachers’ Welfare Association (AMGTA) has urged the State Government to rectify the alleged pay anomaly at the earliest.
The existing pay band of Graduate Teachers (both trained and untrained) under the 6th Pay ROP-2010 is Rs 9300-34,800+Academic Grade Pay of Rs 4300/3900 respectively.
The above pay scale was paid notionally with effect from January 1, 2006 with cash payment from November 1, 2011 with concurrence of the Finance Department (PIC), said a press release issued by AMGTA. Notwithstanding the existing pay structure, the Manipur Services (revised Pay) Rules, 2019 has revised (downwardly) the existing pay band and grade pay of Graduate Teachers to Rs 5200-20,000 with grade pay of Rs 2800/2400 for trained and untrained teachers respectively.
It then asked whether the Finance Department (PIC) did not make any reference to the existing pay structure of Graduate Teachers while preparing ROP 2019 or was it a case of gross oversight. Amidst the commendable and ambitious School Fagathansi mission of the State Government, the ROP 2019 has completely demoralised the teachers’ fraternity as it is tantamount to insulting the teaching community in general and Graduate Teachers in particular, it decried.
In case the State Government fails to address the grievances of Graduate Teachers, AMGTA would fully endorse and participate in any form of democratic protest taken up by the Council of Teachers’ Association (COTA), the parent body of teachers’ community, it added.
