IMPHAL, Aug 9 : The Editors Guild Manipur (EGM) has condoled the demise of senior journalist and PTI photo jounalist Phanjoubam Santosh who passed away today after a personal ailment.
He was 61.
On the other hand, media community, led by IPR Minister Th Biswajit, paid floral tributes to the mortal remains of Santosh at Manipur Press Club this evening
He is survived by his wife and two children. Members of the Guild shared the grief and pain of the bereaved family as they go through difficult times.
Santosh was a prolific photo journalist who travelled deep into rural Manipur and captured images that had immense impact on the society.
Members of EGM also prayed for the departed soul.
Meanwhile, Works and IPR Minister Th Biswajit too has condoled the untimely demise of PTI photo journalist Phanjoubam Santosh.
In a condolence message, the IPR Minister remarked that the State has lost an efficient and experienced journalist with the demise of Ph Santosh.
“I hope that his memory will inspire many youngsters to join the media fraternity and follow his footsteps”, Biswajit said.
He also conveyed solidarity to the bereaved family while praying that the departed soul may rest in peace.
Veteran journalist and Special Representative of Statesman Yambem Laba recalled his days with Ph Santosh starting from 1988 and described him as a fearless and gutsy photo journalist.
Meanwhile, the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) held an emergency meeting today at Manipur Press Club and observed silence for two minutes in honour of the departed soul of Ph Santosh.
A press release issued by AMWJU said that the untimely demise of Santosh is a great loss to the journalist fraternity.
Ph Santosh had been associated with AMWJU for the last many years and he had been a source of inspiration to all fellow journalists, AMWJU added.
