Drug smugglers held

JIRIBAM, Aug 28 : Three individuals, including two members of a prominent civil organisation were apprehended along with WY tablets at Jirighat police outpost yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The individuals have been identified as president of the Jiribam branch of the CSO Konthoujam Ibomcha, vice president of the said branch M Nungshithoiba and one Government teacher and a resident of Hilghat, Jiribam, identified as Huirem Kiran Kumar.
According to police source, the trio were proceeding near Jiribam on a four wheeler vehicle (which had "President" of the said CSO marked on the name plate) and at that time Jirighat police was on alert after receiving information from Lakhipur SDPO concerning the transportation of contraband.
The source mentioned that when the vehicle approached the outpost, the police signalled them to stop but the vehicle tried to evade the police.
However, owing to the presence of barricade, the vehicle was stopped and the trio were detained at around 11.30 am, the source mentioned adding that while carrying out frisking and checking of the vehicle, the police recovered 1600 WY tablets, concealed inside 10 packets.
The detained individuals and the drugs were handed over to Lakhipur police for further investigation, according to Jirighat police.
