IMPHAL, Aug 28: The JAC Against the Killing of Ningthoujam Babysana Chanu, has announced that it will impose a 48 hour all Manipur general strike from 6 am of September 2 to 6 am of September 4, if the State Government fails to fulfil the demands of the JAC at the earliest.
A press release issued by the convenor in charge of the JAC, L Gyaneshwari, conveyed that the JAC had demanded immediate release of its members, who are in police custody, as well as for the Chief Minister to head to Delhi and hand over the case to the CBI.
Demanding the Government to show proof that the case has been actually handed to the CBI, before August 31, it stated that JAC will be launching stringent agitation from September 1 onwards, including the imposition of a 48 hour all Manipur bandh from September 2 if the State Government fails to meet the JAC's demands.
Conveying that it appreciates the support people of the State who have been fighting for Babysana's justice as well as that of the members, who are presently in jail, it alleged that the Government has been feeding lies to the public in an alleged attempt to tarnish the image of the JAC.
But eventually, the truth came out when Chief Minister N Biren responded to a question raised by Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan, during the Assembly session wherein the CM clarified that the CBI is yet to take over Babysana's case.
On the other hand, the JAC explained that the general strike will not affect electricity-water related works, illness and religious rituals/ceremonies and urged all student organisations, Meira Paibis, CSOs, clubs and organisations to extend all possible support to the agitation so that justice is delivered.
