Imphal, Aug 23: Agriculture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Minister V Hangkhanlian launched Chumthang- fortified toned milk with vitamin A and D at Hotel Classic Imphal today.
The fortified milk is a product of the Central Dairy Plant at Porompat, Imphal.
Speaking at the function as chief guest, V Hangkhanlian stated that with the change in the food habit of the people of the State, the demand for milk and its products has been increasing.
The management of the Central Dairy Plant at Porompat was handed over to the Manipur Milk Producers’ Co-Operative Union Ltd with effect from first July, 2010, he said.
As per the directive of the Government of India, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, the Central Project- IDDP, now, National Programmes for Dairy Development (NPDD), has been underway in the State. Manipur Milk Union is the implementing agency and the State Department of Veterinary is supporting the Union, the Minister said.
The launched of the fortified milk with vitamin A and D is a matter of pride and pleasure for the State, he said and thanked National Nutrition Initiative ( TINI ) Tata Trust and National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) for giving support in the launch of the fortified milk.
The Manipur Milk Union deserves wide appreciation, he said encouraging it to continue its serve to the people. More Systematic Dairy Development Projects for the rural areas of hill and valley will be planed and executed for the benefits of poor farmers, he said asking support and cooperation from people.
A website of the Manipur Milk Producers’ Co-Operative Union Ltd was also launched at the event.
The programme was organised by Manipur Milk Producers’ Co-Operative Union Ltd, Manipur State in collaboration with TINI-Tata Trusts and National Dairy Development Board under the guidelines of FSSAI, Government of India.
Commissioner (Vety & AH), Sumant Singh, and Executive Director, NDDB Anand, Meenesh Shah and senior advisor, TINI-Tata Trusts, India, Vivek Arora attended the event.
Register, Co- Operative Societies, Manipur Robert Sing Kshetrimayum, Director Vety and AH Services, Manipur, Dr H Chaoba Singh, other government officials also attended the function.
