IMPHAL, Aug 21 : Manipur emerged team champions at the Junior National Pencak Silat National Championship 2019 held at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar under the aegis of Pencak Silat Sports Association of Punjab with a rich haul of 11 medals including, 7 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
The last day of the championship saw Manipur's Senjam Robinson, Soibam Manglem, Shagolshem Jona Chanu and the pair of Wakambam Sunilsethy and Sinam Chingkheinganba win gold medals to make it a total of 7 gold medals after S Jona (42 kg gold), W Sunilsethy (51-55 kg tending) and Thounaojam Rita (48-51 kg tending event) won gold medals earlier.
Senjam Robinson claimed the gold medal in the 59-73 kg tending event while Soibam Manglem bagged the gold in the 63-67 kg tending event.
Senjam Robinson also added a silver medal to the State's tally as he finished second in the tunggal male event.
Shagolshem Jona struck her second gold medal of the championship in the artistic female tunggal event and the W Sunilsethy and S Chingkheinganba pair won the other gold medal in the male artistic double ganda event.
Athletes from 32 State and UTs participated in this championship which began on August 18.
Meanwhile, president of Pencak Silat Association of Manipur, Laishram Shyamkumar expressed satisfaction and greeted the State players and officials over the achievement on behalf of the association.
It may be mentioned that the State players are doing quite well in the said sports disciplines in the National and international platforms in the recent years.
