Health Minister L Jayanta-kumar Singh launched National Viral Hepatitis Control Program in the State today, as a part of the World Hepatitis Day, 2019.
The Health Minister also inaugurated a Model Treatment Centre each at JNIMS and RIMS.
Speaking at the observance of World Hepatitis Day, 2019 at RIMS jubilee hall as the chief guest, Minister Jayantakumar said that the newly opened Model Treatment Centre will provide free diagnostic facility, free treatment and free medicines for hepatitis patients.
He maintained that hepatitis has become a dreadful disease which need serious attention and added that it is the right time to work for total eradication of hepatitis from the world.
The Ministry of Health is targeting to eradicate hepatitis by the year 2030, the Minister added.
Jayantakumar also asserted that people living in urban areas are more or less aware of hepatitis and at the moment, there is a need for focusing towards those who are living at remote places as they are less aware about the disease. In this regard, health staff who are working in the field were advised to perform their duties with sincerity and dedication, the Minister said, appealing all media persons to propagate awareness to the public regarding hepatitis.
Jayantakumar further said that the Government is always ready to provide infrastructure and equipment to develop heath services in the State.
Without the peoples’ participation and cooperation, all efforts of the Government will be fruitless, he added.
Speaking as the president of the function, A Radhabinod Sharma, Joint Secy (Health), said that India is one of the 5 top countries with the registration of maximum hepatitis patients and added that the opening of two Model Treatment Centre, one each at JNIMS and RIMS, is a proud moment for the people.
The observance was also attended by Dr S Manikanta Singh, SMD, NHM, Manipur, Prof A Santa Singh, Director RIMS and Prof Ch Arunkumar Singh, MS, RIMS as guests of honour.
