IMPHAL, Jun 29 : Services Sports Control Board (SSCB: Army Sports Institute, Pune) with a total of 8 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals bagged the overall team champions title at the 36th Glenmark Sub-Junior and 46th Glenmark Junior National Aquatic Championships 2019 being held from June 26 to 30 at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Swimming Pool, Bhakti Nagar, Rajkot, Gujarat.
Diver's hailing from Manipur made a major contribution to SSCB in becoming the overall champions as they managed 7 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals from various events. They are being trained at Army Sports Institute, Pune under the supervision of diving coach Malem Kunjeshor Meitei, from Taothong Khunou Khudeiban Leikai, Lamsang.
Ningthoujam William from Kongba Nandeibam Leikai, earned two goal medals for SSCB as he finished first in the Boys Group I high board diving (382.15 pts) and 1 m spring board (340.90 pts) events. William was born to Ningthoujam Bhorot and Ningthoujam Ongbi Anita Devi.
Yumnam Premson, son of Yumnao Inao Meitei and Yumnam Ongbi Landhoni Devi of Pangei Waiton Maning Leikai, bagged 3 gold medals for SSCB in the boys Group II events at the said championship. He bagged the first gold medal in the high board diving event with 279.90 points before clinching another in the 3 m springboard event with a total score of 340.40 points. He claimed the third gold medal in the 1 m spring board diving securing 305.50 points.
Thoudam Nelson Meitei, who is the son of Thoudam Goutam Meitei and Thoudam Ongbi Naobi Devi of Luwangsangbam Mayai Leikai, scored 269.60 points in the 3 m spring board diving event for boys Group II to win a bronze medal for SSCB.
Indibar Sairem, son of Sairem Dhamendra Meitei and Sairem Ongbi Premita Devi of Lamboikhongnangkhong also bagged two gold and one silver medals for SSCB in the Group III boys diving events. Indibar bagged the first gold medal in the high board diving event after securing 205.50 points and won the second gold medal in the 3 m spring board event where he scored 248.80 points. He scored 200.15 points in the 1 m spring board event to bagged the silver medal.
Laishram Dickson Singh, son of L Chaoba Singh and Bina Devi of Yurembam Awang Leikai, earned another bronze medal for SSCB in the boys' Group III 1 m spring board event (183.75 points).
