By Our Staff Reporter IMPHAL, Jun 23: In con-nection with the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a wall painting competition was held today at Dingku Road under the aegis of Social Welfare Department. Altogether 33 students coming from 11 districts of the State took part in the competition. Speaking about the wall painting competition, Social Welfare Director Ng Uttam said that June 26 is observ-ed as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking every year. Ahead of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, district level wall painting competitions were held after which three students were selected from each district for the State level competition held today, Uttam said. He said that the painting competition is aimed at bringing a healthy Manipur, free from drugs. Prizes of the painting competition would be distributed on June 26 at Chandrakirti Auditorium where the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking would be observed. Meanwhile, hectic efforts are being made to see that the first draft of the Manipur State Drug Policy is published on or before June 26. The draft would be tabled before experts at workshops and other interactive sessions so as to make it more practical and effective, said the Director. Venish Keisham and Samsom Salam representing Imphal West have won first position of today’s painting competition. Asem Indrajit (Thoubal) and Thokchom Tommy Devi (Imphal East) have bagged the second prize and third prize respectively. They would be given cash prizes of Rs 25,000, Rs 23,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively on June 26.
