IMPHAL, May 16: The All Manipur Minor Irrigation Department Employees Association has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary threatening to launch an indefinite strike from June 1, if the State Government fails to pay the pending 9 months worth of arrear for ROP 2010 for the work charge staff of Minor Irrigation Department at the earliest. According to a reliable source, even though the staff of the Department have been provided benefits for the ROP 2010, the work charge staff are yet to get 9 months worth of arrear till date and in the last week of March, the association had appealed to the Chief Engineer to do the needful. At that time, the CS assured to pay the pending amount in April but till date, no payment for the work charge staff has materialised, the source added. The issue was also deliberated during a special general body meeting of the association on May 9 and during the said meeting, it was resolved to launch agitation from June 1 owing to the failure of the Government to pay the pending arrear. The source continued that the strike notice served to the CS mentioned that from June 1 to 7, employees will organise sit in protest and from June 10 an indefinite ceasework strike will be launched until the demands are met. The notice also explained that the ceasework will cover all office hours, except Sundays and general holidays, the source added.
