MANPAC team leaves for Delhi, candle light prayers held

IMPHAL, Dec 3: A 9 member team of Manipur People Against Citizenship Amendment Bill (MANPAC), took blessings from Khwairamband Keithel Lairembi and women market vendors as well as from the leaders of various CSOs today, before leaving Imphal for a consultative meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah tonight on the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
A simple send off function was held at the road located in between the two Khwairamband Ima Keithels during which a prayer ceremony was organised for a positive outcome in the meeting tonight.
Speaking to media persons, convener of MANPAC Yumnamcha Dilipkumar said that as per the invitation received from the Union Government, the team will take part in a consultation with Amit Shah tonight.
During the meeting, MANPAC will make it clear to the Union Home Minister that CAB must not be implemented in the entire North East under any circumstance.
Even if the Union Home Minister proposes any alternative solution, MANPAC will put the welfare and sentiments of the people first before taking any decision, he added.
Dilipkumar continued that in light of their visit to New Delhi for the meeting, the people of Manipur have given a responsibility to the members of MANPAC members to deter the Union Government from implementing CAB in the North East region, including Manipur.
Amu Kamei, co-convener of MANPAC said that the people of the State (both the hills and the valley) are not happy with the Union Government's plan to bring out the Bill in Parliament.
MANPAC will make the stand of the people against CAB, known to the Centre, he added.
On the other hand, volunteers of Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and women market vendors of temporary market shed, lit candles and prayed in front of Kangla Western Gate today evening, following the appeal made by the Manipur Peoples Against Citizenship Amendment Bill (MANPAC) yesterday.
The volunteers of DESAM and women market vendors arranged the candles to form the words MANPAC-No-CAB -In MANIPUR and raised slogans like 'No CAB in Manipur', 'Long Live Manipur' and 'Ema Leibak Na Yaiphare'.
Similarly candles were also lit at the three Khwairamband Ima Keithels.
The Coordinating Body Khurai also organised a similar candle light prayer at Khurai Ahong Pung at 6 pm today for the MANPAC team which went to Delhi to meet the Union Home Minister for consultation on the CAB issue.
