Considering the significance of the study of folklore and culture in contemporary Manipuri literature, Society for Folklore and Literary Research Manipur organised a one day seminar on the theme "Folklore and Literature in contemporary Manipuri society" today at the Department of English and Cultural Studies, Manipur University.
The inaugural programme was graced by Prof Ch Jaswabanta Singh, Dean School of Humanities, MU and was presided over by Prof M Mani Meitei, president Society for Folklore and Literary Research Manipur.
Morning session of the seminar was chaired by Prof S Sanatombi and four paper readers, namely Dimneikim Singshon, Moibungkhongbam Sangbanabi, Mayengbam Bidyapati and Tongbram Amarjit presented their papers on different topics.
Two parallel sessions held at noon were chaired by Dr RK Musuksana and Prof L Birjita. 9 research scholars, Tayenjam Bidyapati, Sonam Chaoton, Hatneilam Taothang, Irom Ichal, N Kunjeshwor, Soibam Langlen, Chabungbam Ranjana, Yanglem Dutta and Yengkhom Ibomcha presented different papers on folklore and literature.
