IMPHAL, Oct 29
A female Amur Falcon, suspected to have reached Manipur today, was rescued and tended to by People For Animals (PFA) Manipur after it was found with a broken wing from a location of Imphal East district.
It may be mentioned that many Amur Falcons from Siberia and China have started reaching Tamenglong in Manipur and some areas of Nagaland in their migratory journey to South Africa.
Staff of State Veterinary Hospital, took time off of the Ningol Chakkouba festival and came to the hospital to tend to the migratory bird. An XRay showed that the bird had a broken left wing and Superintendent Dr Priyokumar and surgeon Dr Open are closely monitoring the bird currently.
This is the first time a live Amur Falcon has been found in Imphal area. It may be recalled that the State Government has taken up several initiatives to protect the migratory bird.
The female Amur Falcon rescued today was found by one Khoisnam Basanta of Khurai Ningthoubung during a morning walk near his house.
The bird is currently being cared for at PFA shelter after taking necessary recommendation from wildlife experts.
