Ningol Chakkouba festival celebrated

IMPHAL, Oct 29 : Indigenous Minority Socio-Cultural Organisation Manipur (IMSCOM) and United Peoples' Front (UPF) Manipur organised Ching-Tam Ningol Chakkouba event at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound today.
Speaking at the event, titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba said that Ningol Chakkouba has been an auspicious festival of Manipur since the early days and Ningol Chakkouba as we now know it, came into being during the time of Maharaj Chandrakriti.
Lauding the event of Ching-Tam Ningol Chakkouba, he said that this is a beautiful event and will bring peace and unity among the communities.
He also appealed to the people to not think about the festival as just some feasting and exchange of gifts and instead to inculcate the inner meaning of love and bonding with one another for developing a stronger society and a stronger Manipur.
President IMSCOM, Momsokam Bapui, UPF president Warepam Second, Principal DM College of Arts (DM University) Dr Ch Sheelarmani, ex-MP Kim Gangte, former Member of Manipur State Commission for Women, Dr Farid Shah, president Kuki Women Union Manipur, Nenglam, president of Naga Women Union (NWU) Asha Wungnam, president Kabui Mothers Association Manipur Atom Pui Kamei, founder of Methodist Church in NE India Dr Kim Vaiphei, secretary Southern Tangkhul Naga Baptist Association Ngamchuiwon Kathing and president Mao Naga Women Welfare Association Imphal Dr Kaini also attended the event as presidium members.
With the objective of sharing the message of unification and coexistence of all communities in the State, All Manipur Ethical Socio Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) celebrated its 27th annual Ningol Chakkouba at Brighter Academy, Lamlai today.
Social worker Mongjam Poirehenba Meetei, AMESCO president BK Moirangcha, Poirei Leimarol Meria Paibi Apunba Manipur president Longjam Memchoubi, AMUCO president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang, headman of Laikoiching Wungnaoshang Konghay, Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation Adbullah Phundreimayum, chief of Thayong village M Reneishon Kom, cabinet member of Vaiphei People Council, North East India Anek Vaiphei, chief Laikot Phaijol, Kholo Thang Kharam and Thoubei, Sawombung Kabui Khunjao Gangmumei Kamei attended the function as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Women from both the hills and the valley were present to celebrate the Ningol Chakkouba.
Welcoming the gathering, Mongjam Poirehenba Meetei stated that the glue that binds the successful celebration of Ningol Chakkouba is the idea of unification and coexistence of all the varied communities in Manipur and AMESCO has organised the function to portray the true bond of all the people.
Although there are different ethnic communities residing in the State, they all have been recognised as a Manipuri and organising such auspicious occasion strengthens the relationship of the brothers and sisters of all the communities, he added.
