IMPHAL, Oct 12: Nambol Kendra MLA N Loken has expressed concern about the uncertainty of the fate of the Meitei/Meetei community after a period of 10 years from now.
He made the statement speaking as the chief guest during the silver jubilee celebration of Chandreshwor Memorial Scientific English School which was held today.
The MLA said that in the past, the people used to depend on the big lakes and water bodies and their fields for their livelihood but now, the number of poor and unemployed people are increasing rapidly due to the exploitation by a few rich elites.
The situation is compounded further by the advance in science and technology which has led to men being replaced fully or in part, he said, adding that the condition of the Meitei community has been declining due to such unemployment problems.
However despite the presence of such hardships, the Meitei community are still breeding hatred and distrust even among themselves which is rather unfortunate and which presents and uncertain future for the community just 10 years from now, he alleged. On the other hand, he lauded the school for producing many successful people and urged the teachers and students to work hard and give their best in the future as well.
Retired Forest Ranger L Lokendro, Dhanabir Laishram, Inspector of Police M Dishambar and Samurou Higher Secondary School Assistant Teacher A Sanajaoba attended the event as the presidium members.
Various cultural shows were also showcased as a part of the event.
