Joykumar rectifies but refuses to tender apology

IMPHAL, Apr 4: Even as a group of Meira Paibis belonging to Manipur Apunba Imasing marched to the residence of NPP State unit president Yumnam Joy-kumar today and asked him to tender an apology for his allegation that the Arambai Tenggol attacked Kukis, Joykumar refused to tender any apology, explaining that he has already replaced the words Arambai Tenggol with ‘civilians’.
Meira Paibis of Manipur Apunba Imasing gathered at Lamboikhongnangkhong and marched to the Uripok Naoremthong Takhellam-bam Leikai residence of Yumnam Joykumar.
Imphal West district police as well as Central forces (BSF) were already present at the residence of Joykumar when the Meira Paibis reached there.
Manipur Apunba Imasing president Thongam Inaocha said that they marched to the residence of the NPP Manipur State president as he failed to tender an apology for his misleading and unfounded allegation against the Arambai Tenggol by 10 am today.
“We were asking Yum-nam Joykumar to withdraw his misleading allegation and tender an apology but Joykumar maintained he has already made a clarification/correction on his X account”, Inaocha said.
Joykumar said that he has replaced the word ‘Arambai Tenggol’ with the word ‘civilians’.
But the Meira Paibis insisted that he must tender an apology before the media.
“As Yumnam Joykumar has refused to tender an apology, we would discuss the matter with the volunteers of Arambai Tenggol and decide what step should be taken next”, Inaocha said.
On the other hand, Joykumar said that he talked with the Meira Paibis and assured that he would not make such mistakes in the future.
The misleading allegation shared on X was rectified and the edited version was uploaded on the X account of NPP Manipur State unit yesterday, Joykumar said.
The sentence “.... let groups like Arambai Tenggol attack Kukis....” was replaced with the sentence “....let civilians attack each other...”, he said.
Soon after the talk ended between Joykumar and the Meira Paibis, media persons were called upstairs for a media briefing.
Even before the media briefing ended, one IRB personnel (Joykumar’s security guard) dragged away two Reporters of Mami TV and IS COM.
Enraged by the manhandling of their colleagues, the other media persons lodged a strong protest and demanded an immediate apology from the rogue security personnel.
Subsequently, the IRB personnel tendered an apology to the media persons.
