IMPHAL, Apr 2: Locals have caught Keystone company excavating earth "illegally" from an area in Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency.
The company was allegedly found excavating earth from a hill between Haraorou and Yumnam Khunou in the name of Imphal Ring Road project without any document, said Yaipha Lamjing Lup's secretary, Tonjam Somorjit.
He said this at a press meet held at Khundrakpam Mayai Leikai, where the locals and the Lup have blocked around 20 vehicles of the Keystone company.
The Khundrakpam road was being repaired when locals noticed Keystone vehicles plying the road daily. When enquired, a person who claimed to be a supervisor of the company was unable to produce documents for carrying out the excavation. So, the locals decided to ban the company from excavating earth from the area, Somorjit said.
He further asserted that the Pangei Forest Beat Office has also confirmed their alleged inability to intervene in the matter and lack of documents permitting the excavation.
"If the excavation was done by the locals, the Forest Department may have already imposed fines and taken actions. However in the present case, it is unable to take action as it involves some big persons," Somorjit said, seeking the attention of the Governor for his intervention.
