IMPHAL, Mar 29 : Amidst the lingering demand for a Separate Administration by 10 Kuki MLAs, a new development has emerged, hinting at the formation of a Kuki National Council (KNC).
A well placed source said that Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) is reportedly working with various Kuki civil society organizations to form the KNC.
A meeting has also been convened in Churachandpur in the presence of the 10 Kuki MLAs to discuss the formation of KNC, marking a significant development in their political pursuit.
The meeting however didn't take any resolution.
It is reported that the proposed formation of the KNC is aimed at facilitating a peaceful dialogue with the Government, drawing inspiration from Naga peace talks  on Naga Unification, Southern Nagaland or Naga sovereignty.
It may be mentioned that NSCN (IM) has been holding peace talks with the Government of India since August 1, 1997 after signing a ceasefire agreement.
The source went on to state that Kuki-Zo people are working to float a new political  party - Kuki-Zo National Party (KZNP) by abolishing Kuki People Alliance (KPA) which currently has two MLAs, Kimneo Hangshing and Chinlunthang in the State Assembly (now suspended).
According to the source, the KZNP plans to contest in all 10 Kuki-Zo Assembly Constituencies in place of KPA in the 2027 State Assembly elections to address their grievances.
