IMPHAL, Feb 16 : BJP Manipur Pradesh vice presi-dent Ch Chidananda has stated that blaming Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Satyrabrata for the resignation of former Chief Minister N Biren Singh is unwarranted.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Chidananda continued that he respects the decision taken by the former Chief Minister to  step down regardless of whether it was a decision made in consultation with the Central leader- ship or out of his own volition in response to the State's situation.
He, however, said that blaming Speaker Th Satya-brata for the political insta- bility in Manipur is unjustified.
Chidananda continued that the ruling MLAs' decision to take a stand against N Biren Singh's leadership was driven by a deep-seated distrust among the people.
It is unfortunate that protests are being staged at some places against the Speaker in connection with the unfolding situation in Manipur which appears to be politically motivated, he said.
The ongoing crisis in Manipur has led to widespread discontent among the people, with many holding a grudge against the BJP, he said and added that the trust deficit persists  despite the efforts by the Government to resolve the crisis.
He said that the BJP and its allied partners, despite being in power, suffered a big loss in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and it reflects the sentiment of the people.
The Central Government, nonetheless, has been close-ly monitoring the situation in Manipur and stationing BJP's North East Coordinator Sambit Patra in Manipur was a good move, Chidananda added.
Saying that the inability of the BJP to appoint a new leader after N Biren's resignation may be attributed to the lack of communication among the party's MLAs, he added that the party MLAs will surely accept whoever the Central leadership appoints as the next leader .
He, meanwhile, said that the BJP leaders in Manipur are aware of the concerns surrounding the crackdown on village volunteers..
Saying that village volunteers are not outlawed or members of illegal organisations, Chidananda added that village volunteers emerged to safeguard Manipur and the people. Further stating that there haven't been any reports of Meetei village volunteers attacking security personnel, he expressed optimism that the issue of village volunteers will be resolved politically.
