Landslide blocks NH-29 in Nagaland

Landslides triggered by incessant rains in Nagaland blocked National Highway-29 connecting Kohima to Dimapur, officials reported on Tuesday.
On Monday, a landslide near Dzudza village in Kohima district caused severe traffic disruptions on the vital NH-29 corridor.
Notably, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for the North Eastern States of Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura on Monday.
According to the Met Department, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted for Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Kumar Ramnikant, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, has issued a travel advisory directing all Kohima to Dimapur residents to take alternative routes. Torrential rains have caused severe water logging in many parts of Dimapur, hindering transportation and impacting daily life. The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has warned of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across the State till August 25. “Due to the likelihood of excessive precipitation, Nagaland’s lowland and foothill regions including Dimapur, Nuiland, Chumukedima, Bhandari, Pangti, Tizit, and Tuli are likely to be impacted by waterlogging and flash floods,” NSDMA stated in the advisory.
