Highlighting the plight of homeless ponies along NH-37

Sir,
Through the esteemed column of your newspaper, I on behalf of my locality, Langjing Achouba, would liked to request the heads of the department concerned to take immediate actions for the homeless horses roaming on the roads.
On NH-37, along the Tera to Patsoi line, we can find many displaced horses numbering around 25, including pregnant horses and foals, roaming on the roads, surviving on the garbages piled up along the roadsides. Some of them seem to be suffering from skin diseases. Moreover, in search of food, they move here and there which is an eye sore to every passers by.
On January 6, 2024, the Marjing Polo Statue was unveiled in the presence of honourable Chief Minister N Biren Singh. It was built to commemorate the modern game of Polo to acknowledge that the game originated from Manipur. This is where it becomes important to ensure that conservation of horses becomes the first priority of the Government. It would be self defeating if the survival of the pony cannot be ensured, for without them the game of ‘Sagol Kangjei’ would be rendered meaningless. It is unfortunate that the Government and the people of Manipur are not able to better the fate of the helpless pony. In my opinion, the ponies must be shifted to a safer place, taking appropriate action to ensure their lifetime conservation.
Through the column of The Sangai Express I pray that the points laid down would reach the ears of the department concerned so that appropriate course of action can be taken up for the endangered ponies.
