25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas observed

Imphal, Jul 26  : As in other parts of the country, Manipur also observed the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas at the Banquet Hall of the 1st Manipur Rifles Battalion, today.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Power Minister Th Biswajit Singh stated that the day is observed across the country on July 26 every year to celebrate India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War in 1999.
Saying that people need to respect every soldier who had sacrificed their lives for the cause of the motherland, the Minister added that Kargil Vijay Diwas holds significance as it recounts the essence of patriotism.
He reiterated that the Indian Air Force also celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas -Rajat Jayanti at the Air Force Station at Sarsawa from July 12 to 26, 2024 to honour the bravehearts who made a supreme sacrifice for the Nation.
He expressed his gratitude to those uniform personnel who were involved in evacuating 60,000 displaced people in Manipur.
 Saying that it is the Constitutional duty of every citizen to safeguard and preserve their land, he added that people should stop blaming one another for the situation in Manipur but cooperate to restore peace.
Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai was the functional president.
Delivering his speech, Awangbow Newmai said that the valour and sacrifice shown by the Indian soldiers in Kargil War made it possible for them to defend the freedom and the integrity of the country.
The Minister further said that this day is dedicated to all those bravehearts who fought valiantly to protect the sovereignty of the Nation.
He also appreciated the Central security forces for assisting the Government to restore peace in Manipur.
Saying that protecting lives is the responsibility of the Central and the State Governments, the Minister added that Indian soldiers overcame many challenges during the war which went on for 78 days.
Their sacrifices should not be forgotten, he said.
As part of the observation, artists from Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Government Music College, Imphal performed a patriotic song.
The observation was also attended by Ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary, Security Advisor, Director General of Police and high ranking civil and police officials among others.
The State unit of BJP also observed the day at Thambal Shanglen at Nityaipat Chuthek.
