Court sends non-local to police custody

IMPHAL, Jul 26 : The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West on Friday remanded a non local who was arrested on the charge of theft and criminal breach of trust to eight days police custody.
Accused Amarjit (49), s/o Darshan of Patti Jagga, Punjab was arrested on July 20 from Darjeeling. He was brought to Manipur after taking a transit remand from a Court concerned.
Amarjit was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West by Singjamei police today with a prayer to send him to police custody for nine days.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that Amarjit was arrested based on a complaint lodged by one Lal Babu Shah (40) from Bihar who is presently staying at Mantripukhri on July 12.
Lal Babu Shah is the proprietor of M/s Mousami Scrap which deals with scrap items at Langthabal Mantrikhong.
The complainant said that he got an order for supplying 12,000 kilograms of scrap for a sum of Rs 3,96,480 to Shiv Shakti Traders which is based at Banaspati Nagar, Guwahati in Assam.
The complainant loaded the ordered scraps to a truck registered in the name of the accused on June 21, the IO said and  added that Amarjit was also given Rs 57,000 as transportation fee.
Saying that the accused, however, didn't supply the scrap to the  buyer, the IO added that the mobile phone of the accused was found switched off when the complainant tried to contact him.
The IO continued that the conduct of Amarjit amounts to cheating and theft and criminal breach of trust.
The IO said that the police had spoken with the proprietor of Shiv Shakti Traders during the course of the investigation and it has been confirmed that the scarp items have not been delivered yet.
The IO further said that a requisition was written to the Superintendent of Darjeeling police after they got an information that Amarjit had left Guwahati after selling the scrap items and was travelling in an area under Phansidewa police station.
The Singjamei police arrested Amarjit on July 20 from the premises of Bidhan Nagar Investigation Centre where he was detained along with his truck.
It is said that the accused accepted the charges levelled against him and he was brought to Manipur for further investigation and to recover the stolen items.
The Court after hearing the submission of APP and on perusal of the case record  remanded the accused to eight days police custody till August 3.
