Leonie Tayenjam, Rishav Ngangom claim U-19 boys, girls' singles titles

IMPHAL, Jul 26 : Leonie Tayenjam of Imphal West and Rishav Ngangom of Bishnupur emerged the U-19 girls and boys' singles crowns at the 68th State Open Badminton Championships 2024 being organised by the Manipur Badminton Association at its Indoor Stadium, DM University Campus.
Leonie Tayenjam claimed the top honour as Konsam Gunjan of Imphal East retired after trailing 14-21, 5-11 this morning.
Meanwhile, Rishav sealed the U-19 boys title with a 22-20, 21-16 win over Lourembam Thoungam of Imphal West in the title clash.
Earlier in the day, Rishav booked his final ticket with a 21-12, 21-19 win over Pfoki Liruna of Senapati in the first semi-final match of the competition while Thoungam completed the final line up with a 21-16, 21-23, 21-19 win over Saikhom Gung of Thoubal in the other semi-final match.
Chanulembi, Dylan P win U-15 singles titles
Chanulembi Sapam of Imphal West was able to seal the title of the U-15 girls competition as she overwhelmed Rekispa Soubam of Thoubal 21-7, 21-10 in the final match.
Dyaln P Thokchom of Imphal West in the meantime claimed the U-15 boys singles title defeating Lairenmayum Luwangamba 23-21, 21-7 in the final showdown.
Dylan, who defeated Disin Gonmei of Tamenglong 216, 21-8 in the quarterfinals this morning, entered the final by defeating compatriot Sapam Shyamchandra 21-11, 20-22, 21-9 in the semi-final.
Luwangamba meanwhile earned his semi-final spot with an easy 21-11, 21-17 win over Ng Yaiphaba of Jiribam and clinched his final ticket with a 21-16, 15-21, 21-10 semi-final victory over Laishram Yaiphaba of Imphal West.
S Archana, L Shannon win U-11 singles titles
The day also saw Sarungbam Archana of Imphal East clinching the U-11 girls singles title as Loitongbam Shannon of Imphal West notch up the boys' singles title.
Archana topped the competition with a comfortable 21-11, 21-5 win over Bebina Thingbaijam of Bishnupur in the title clash while Shannon Loitongbam earned the boys' U-11 singles title with a 21-10, 21-9 win over Nameirakpam Devasis of in an all-Imphal West final clash.
Bidyasagar Salam reaches men's singles pre-quarterfinals
Bidyasagar Salam of Imphal West progressed into the last-16 stage of the men's singles competition today with a 21-16, 21-17 win over compatriot Maisnam Rishi in a round of 32 clash this afternoon.
On the other hand, Imphal West's Maisnam Rishi, Khoirom Punsiba, Konthoujam Arvind, Kasprov Ahanthem and others progressed into the last-32 stage of the men's singles competition.
Rishi got the better of Kh Kalenyai of Bishnupur 21-16, 21-13 in a round of 32 clash this morning before Punsiba prevailed 21-7, 21-12 over Nandeibam Baruni of Imphal West.
In another round of 64 match, H Punshiba of MPSC defeated L Bidyananda of Kakching 21-17, 21-14 before Konthoujam Arvind outlasted Marcus Ningombam of Imphal East 21-13, 21-13; S Manisana of Thoubal eased past Imphal West's Kangjam Jenus 21-18, 21-5 and Kasprov Ahanthem saw off Ukhurl's R Chuingachan Shimray 21-13, 21-5.
Later in the other Round of 64 matches, Reingahan Kasar of Ukhrul got a walkover win against Matic Rohe Thiyam of Imphal East; Khomdram Netij Acceber Singh of Bishnupur prevailed 21-11, 21-19 over Heigrujam Malemnganba of Imphal West; Chirom Vikson of Imphal West outlasted Roshan Ingudam of Jiribam 21-12, 21-17; Shushilkumar Haobam of Imphal West eased past L Nikhil of Bishnupur 21-8, 21-12; Ningombam Nandaraj of Imphal East edged out Harshit Sablawat Jain of Imphal West 21-11, 25-27, 21-19.
