IMPHAL, Jul 26 : Indigenous People Forum Manipur (IPFM) president Ashang Kasar has called for unity among all the indigenous people of Manipur.
He was speaking at a function held at Manipur Press Club here today where Thotreisho Keishing’s music video titled “Eikhoi/Ithum” was released and a Youtube channel called Hao Entertainment was launched.
Ashang Kasar said that the protracted crisis besieging Manipur can be resolved when there is an understanding among the people.
As long as there is no unity among the indigenous communities, there can be neither victory nor development, he said.
It is crucial for all the indigenous people to walk collectively on a path of uniform development of both the hills and the valley, he said.
“We can stand united when we are fully convinced that the responsibility of developing Manipur is ours. By that time, there will be peace as well as harmony”, Ashang Kasar said.
Unwanted situations will emerge as long as the indigenous people remain divided.
“Until and unless, we the indigenous people are united, we would continue to live under bondage and extremely miserable conditions”, he said.
If there must be development and progress, there must be unity among the people and all need to work collectively, Ashang Kasar asserted.
Talking about the music video album released today, Ashang Kasar said that the album is named in both Manipuri and Tangkhul.
He said that ‘Ithum’ is the Tangkhul word for the Manipuri word ‘Eikhoi’.
He said that the music album carries a message of peaceful co-existence at all times.
Thotreisho Keishing (State awardee), singer, director, lyricist and producer of the music album said that he composed the songs in 2019.
He could not release the songs all these years because of the Covid pandemic and other problems.
Although the songs were written before the present crisis, it is quite relevant to the present time, Thotreisho said.
“The songs were written by recalling how our ancestors lived peacefully as brothers”, he added.
