Senapati, Jul 25 : After cases of fuel theft in Senapati DHQ area, the nightmare is far from over for vehicle owners as more cases have been reported at Maram and Chakumei village this week.
With no reports of arrest or detention of suspects till date, the identity of this syndicate of  thieves continues to remain an unsolved mystery.
Modus Operandi: The thieves skilfully drain the fuel by cutting the rubber pipe (fuel pipe) which transports fuel from the fuel tank to the engine. These are located on the underside of the vehicle.
After reports of fuel theft from many vehicles in Senapati DHQ area, the same was reported on Tuesday night at Maram and at Chakumei village along Imphal-Dimapur NH-2 on Wednesday night.
However, the vehicle owners who are victims of fuel theft have not filed a single FIR in any police station.
Based on repeated cases of fuel thefts, the same culprits are believed to be involved in all cases.
The spike in such petty crimes reported in Senapati DHQ area which has now escalated to other parts of the district has raised concerns among many people whose vehicles are left in open space parking due to lack of garage or secure spaces.
Notably, some of the victims parked their vehicles in isolated places but mostly without proper lighting or CCTV facilities making them easy targets.
A few weeks ago a fuel theft case was reported from Church Road Colony, Senapati DHQ where petrol was drained and stolen after cutting the fuel pipe.
The owner noticed the cut only when he took his car to a petrol pump to refuel.
According to the victim, the petrol pump attendant told him that he was the sixth person who came there with a cut fuel pipe.
Sources have added that similar cases were also reported in other colonies. Meanwhile, some shops selling motor parts are running out of fuel pipes as many customers have been affected.
