IMPHAL, Jul 25 : The European Manipuri Association (EMA) has submitted a memorandum to Vikram K Doraiswami, IFS, High Commission of India, India House in London appealing for immediate action to restore rule of law in conflict-torn Manipur.
The memorandum submitted by Sagolsem Biramani, chairperson, EMA urged the High Commissioner to engage with relevant authorities within the Indian Government to expedite sincere efforts, without partiality, to restore law and order in Manipur, provide immediate rehabilitation and adequate compensation to all internally displaced people, prioritize the completion of fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border and secure the border with trained Border Security Forces (BSF) personnel to stop transnational terrorism, drugs and arms trafficking, stop deforestation and prevent the expansion of the Golden Triangle into Manipur and identify illegal immigrants and either provide shelter or deport them to their country of origin.
In the memorandum, EMA further urged the High Commissioner to take necessary measures to stop people of Indian origin living in the UK from spreading disinformation or distorting history, which could incite further violence in the already fragile State.
It is worth pointing out that on July 13, spokesperson of Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) and vice-president of International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA), Khuraijam Athouba filed a police complaint with the West Midlands Police in Birmingham, UK against Uday S Reddy, a Computer Science Professor of Indian descent at the University of Birmingham for allegedly inciting hatred between two communities on social media.
