Held for fraud

IMPHAL, Jul 25 : Singjamei police have arrested a woman and her daughter in a case of financial fraud yesterday and the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West has remanded the mother-daughter duo to police custody till July 30.
The arrested persons have been identified as Konsam Sanahanbi and her daughter Konsan Devika of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai.
They were arrested based on a complaint lodged by one Amu Pamei.
The complainant said that he invested a sum of Rs 1,94,50,000 in a trust called  "The Dedicated Three Mother’s Trust" which is run by Konsam Sanahanbi and her associates.
The complainant said that K Sanahanbi approached him in 2012 to invest in the trust by promising a 5 per cent monthly interest of the invested capital in return.
Sanahanbi also assured that the invested capital will be returned once the trust receives funding from Dubai, following which Amu Pamei invested in the trust.
The complainant also mentioned that K Sanahanbi and her associates promised to give a loan amounting Rs 1 lakh per individual and he brought some people to apply for the loan. He said that the applicants were made to pay Rs 2,000 each to  get the loan but the loan was never given to any of them.
The complainant said that he became suspicious when K Sanahanbi stopped picking up his phone when he asked her to return his invested money.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that K Sanahanbi was arrested from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport while she was returning from New Delhi while her daughter was arrested from their residence.
He also said that the police team raided the office of “The Dedicated Three Mother’s Trust” located at the residence of K Sanahanbi but no signboard of the trust was found displayed in the office.
Some documents were recovered from the office cum residence of K Sanahanbi, the APP said.
The APP further said that the arrested persons have admitted they along with their associates collected a huge amount of money from the public in the name of the trust and on the pretext of giving loans.
The APP submitted that the case is related to cheating, criminal breach of trust and looting of hard earned money of many innocent people  while praying before the Court to send them to police custody.
The Court after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the case record remanded the mother and daughter duo to police custody till July 30.
