IMPHAL, Jul 25: Replying to a letter sent by a team of BJP MLAs led by Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata for a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in order to work out a solution to the Manipur crisis and bring peace in the State, the Prime Minister has asked the MLAs to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
According to information received by The Sangai Express, a team of 12 BJP MLAs/Ministers led by Satyabrata sent a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office through email on July 15 and sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As no reply was forthcoming, a second letter was sent on July 23.
The PMO finally sent a reply to Th Satyabrata at 7.25 pm on July 24 and asked the MLAs/Ministers to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah instead of the Prime Minister.
Earlier on September 19, 2023, a letter was sent to the PMO seeking an appointment with the Prime Minister.
The letter was signed by  MLAs belonging to BJP and its ally NPP including Speaker Th Satyabrata, Y Khemchand, H Dingo, S Premchand Singh, L Rameshwar Meetei, S Kebi, S Kunjakishore, Dr Usham Deben, Kh Loken, M Rameshwar Singh, Th Arunkumar, P Brojen, Th Radheshyam, Kh Raghumani, Karam Shyam, Th Shyamkumar, Th Basantakumar, Dr Yumnam Radheshyam, Sapam Nishikant, S Rajen, Md Ashab Uddin, I Nalini, Dr Sapam Ranjan, K Robindro and T Robindro.
On the next day (September 20), the PMO’s Appointment Section sent a reply to Th Satyabrata which was exactly similar to the one sent on July 24, 2024.
As suggested by the PMO, many Ministers and ruling MLAs of Manipur including Speaker Th Satyabrata met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah when he came to Guwahati.
Although the PMO is again suggesting the ruling MLAs to meet Amit Shah, the MLAs/Ministers have not yet taken any decision on whether they should seek an appointment with the Union Home Minister or not.
The Speaker, Ministers and MLAs are quite busy at the moment as the State Assembly session is scheduled to begin from July 31. As such, they have not yet discussed the option of seeking another appointment with the Union Home Minister.
