IMPHAL, Jul 25 : The Laipham Khunou Apunba Meira Paibi Lup has called for withdrawal of the Assam Rifles from Manipur while accusing them of being biased and not discharging their duties well.
A press release issued by Usham Manbi Devi, president, Laipham Khunou Apunba Meira Paibi Lup has said that people have lost faith in the Assam Rifles due to their alleged biased attitude in many incidents.
The Lup accused the Assam Rifles of most recently stopping a combined team of State police and CRPF from conducting a search operation to flush out Kuki militants responsible for the ambush which left one CRPF personnel dead and two police personnel injured in Jiribam.
Additionally, in Kamjong district the Assam Rifles is allegedly engaged in helping illegal immigrants settle in the villages, the Lup accused.
It stated that the innocent villagers of Kamjong have also called for removal of Assam Rifles after they allegedly took over their residences and stoked trans-border ethnic tensions.
