IMPHAL, Jul 25 : A day after an abandoned Meetei house was burnt at Jakuradhor, the Jiribam Apunba Lup (JAL) has condemned the continuous attacks on Meeteis in Jiribam by the Kuki-Zo-Hmar community.
JAL, in a statement, claimed that Meeteis in Jiribam have been refraining from burning  houses that belong to the Kuki-Zo-Hmar community.
It said that the house which was burnt down at Jakuradhor Part 2 in Jiribam last night belonged to one Heikrujam Maniton Singh.
The ill fated house was situated just 400-500 metres from Borobekra police station, it said and added the house's owner has been taking refuge at a relief camp due to the tense situation in Jiribam.
Stating that there are security lapses in Jiribam,  JAL added the people of Jiribam are disappointed with both the district administration and police failing to enforce law and order in the district.
It also said that the Kuki-Zo-Hmar community and their armed 'terrorist groups' will   continue their violent campaign against the Meeteis as long as the district administration and law enforcers remain silent.
It is the Kuki-Zo-Hmar people and their armed groups who have been attacking Meetei residential areas but the district police have been carrying out combing  operations in Meetei  villages mostly and the same is illogical, JAL added.
Appealing to the district police to take action against those who have been attacking Meetei in Jiribam, JAL also demanded  that a security arrangement be established to ensure the safety of Meeteis in vulnerable areas.
Abrogate Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact with Kuki  militant groups so as to bring peace in strife torn Manipur, it demanded.
