IMPHAL, Jul 25 : A documentary film titled "Kwatha Pham Kaaba" focusing on the cultural heritage and resilience of the remote village of Kwatha is set to premiere on July 27 at the auditorium hall of the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS).
Addressing a press conference today at Manipur Press Club, director Khaba Maimom stated that the documentary delves into a specific festival celebrated at the Meitei village which lies in the adjoining area of Manipur and Myanmar.
It depicts how the residents, elders and the village chief have protected the village and its age-old customs and traditions.
Since time immemorial, Kwatha has a tradition whereby 12 elders and the village chief protect the village and the villagers. Anytime one of the positions becomes vacant, it is replaced by a resident of the village, he said.
He expressed firm belief that the documentary, which is about the cultural resilience of Kwatha village and its residents who continue to steadfastly hold on to their customs against the tide of modernity and change, will resonate with the people.
He added that the premiere will also feature a question and answer session with the director and key members of the production team.
The documentary will be screened at the 3 pm and 5 pm time slot on the premiere day at MSFDS. It will be screened again the next day (July 28) at the same time slot.
