IMPHAL, Jul 22 : Angtha FC became runaway Group A leaders in the 3rd AMFA Cup as the edged past YWC-Thambalkhong by 2-1 goals today in their penultimate group stage match at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong.
YWC-Thambalkhong had the better start dominating the earlier proceedings against Angtha FC, who had beaten GDC and YDO in their previous matches, and registered the lead just into four minute with Ayekpam Dijendra finding the target.
Angtha FC however did not lose and fought back confidently and pulled level through Chanambam Mangal in the 22nd minute.
It was almost an end to end affair with the score levelled at 1-1 and despite chances they entered into the break with the same scoreline.
YWC and Angtha FC also shared fair share of possession and scoring chances after the restart but lack of finesse held them back from taking the lead for a major portion of the second half until Kongkham Thoithoi who came off the bench after the lemon break found the back of the YWC net to turn the game on Angtha FC's head.
The final few minutes saw both sides intensifying their search for goal as Angtha FC looked to extend their lead while YWC struggled to come to level terms but their efforts went in vain as defenders did well to tackle all threats. Eventually the match ended 2-1 in favour of Angtha FC.
