Sir,
The article “Myanmar Nationals found illegally settled in Tengnoupal’s Maring area; Cross border movement seen more near AR post” published in The Sangai Express on 18 June 2024, regarding the alleged influx of illegal immigrants from Myanmar into Tengnoupal district, contains numerous false insinuations. Assam Rifles strongly refutes the allegations and would like to state facts.
In the said area, extending from BP 82 to 89, some refugees have indeed taken shelter due to warlike situation in Myanmar, however they are immediately repatriated as the security situation improves across the IMB. The accommodation arrangements for the refugees comprise of self-help, bare essential thatched huts with polythene covers.
The State Administration is fully aware of the presence of refugees in the area and have also collected the biometric data of the refugees. Proper coordination in terms of security exists between the Security Forces and the State Administration.
Security Forces maintain a vigilant presence and are actively managing the border area to prevent any unlawful activities.
Assam Rifles urges the media and the public to seek and trust verified information rather than jaundiced reports.
The security forces are steadfast in their commitment to maintaining the integrity and security of our borders, ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents in the region.
Yours faithfully,
Lieutenant Colonel, Staff Officer (PR & Media)
