Heavy rain likely

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that extremely heavy rainfall is expected to lash the North East region, mainly Meghalaya, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in the next 3-5 days, with Nagaland and Manipur also likely to receive rainfall.
Speaking to reporters, IMD scientist Soma Sen informed that rainfall above 20 cm is expected, further informing that exceptionally heavy rainfall was recorded over Meghalaya on June 17.
The IMD scientist added that two main phenomena dominating the Indian subcontinent have been registered, with the first phenomenon: rainfall likely over North East India, the sub-Himalayan range, West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya.
The second phenomenon: heatwave to severe heatwave conditions, according to Sen is expected over the North Indian plains and the western Himalayan region.
Furthermore, she informed that a red alert has been issued over Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi on June 17, while Uttarakhand may be subject to an orange alert.
The IMD scientist additionally stated a thunderstorm-related orange alert has been issued for Madhya Pradesh where severe thunderstorm associated with lightning may cause human casualties.              India TodayNE
