East Zone Inter University Women's Football Vidyasagar University, Adamas University, Burdwan University, LN Mithila University enter league round

IMPHAL, Nov 4 : Vidyasagar University, Adamas Univer-sity, Burdwan University, LN Mithila University all registered qualifying round wins to progress into the final league round of the East Zone Inter University Football (Women) Tournament 2024-25 being hosted by National Sports University, Imphal.
In the opening match (Pool A) of the qualifying round staged this morning at Main Stadium, previous editions' toppers Vidyasagar University outlasted University of Calcutta 1-0 in an intense match that saw three players being expelled during the stoppage time.
The lone goal that settled the game was scored by Sujata Mahata in the 44th minute after a goalless first half.
As things turned intense towards the end, University of Calcutta were reduced to 9-man as Rekha Roy and Arate Tudu picked up red cards while Vidyasagar University lost Asrafi Khatun.
In the Pool B match staged at RCC Ground Number 2, Adamas University knocked out last edition's runners up Ranchi University 5-0 courtesy of a brace from Rimpa Haldar (50', 57').
Piyali Roy (18'), Hema Munda (23') earned Adamas University a 2-0 first half lead in this one sided encounter before Rimpa struck twice and Mousumi Murmu hit the finisher three minutes into the stoppage time (60+3').
At RCC Ground Number 3, Burdwan University defeated previous editions 3rd placed team- Sambalpur University 3-1 to finish Pool C winners.
Piyali Kora (46'), Sonali Soren (47') and Sonali Mondal (58') were on target in Burdwan University's win as Sneha Tirkey scored the consolation goal for Sambalpur University.
Elsewhere at SAI Takyel Ground Number 4, LN Mithila University, who finished fourth in the previous edition of the tournament, advanced to the final league round as Pool D winners as they defeated Tripura University by a slender 1-0 margin.
The lone goal that settled the game was scored by Dipasana Thapa in the 24th minute.

The day also saw Adamas University and LN Mithila University securing first round wins in the final league round.
Pool B winners, Adamas University were handed a 3-0 win as their match against Vidyasagar University had to be abandoned after 10 minutes following the injury of one more player that reduced the team, whose players had received suspension from previous match, to only 6 players.
Elsewhere at Main Stadium, Pool D winners LN Mithila University opened the final league round campaign with a 2-1 win over Pool C winners Burdwan University courtesy of goals from Deepasana (25') and Anjali (45').
The lone goal for Burdwan University was scored by Sonali Murmu in the 52nd minute.
The zonal tournament organised under the aegis of AIU will conclude tomorrow.
