IMPHAL, Nov 20: Womenfolk at a sit-in protest at Wangkhei Angom Leikai today have demanded immediate resignation of Th Satyabrata from the post of the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly.
The Speaker despite repeated appeals has failed to take action against 10 Kuki MLAs who have openly supported the Kuki militants waging war against the Meiteis and threatening to undermine Manipur's integrity. He must resign as the Speaker immediately, said the protesters.
At the sit-in organised by 12 clubs in Wangkhei area, Women Social Welfare Association Wangkhei Angom Leikai vice president, Devala Okram said the Speaker was earlier given 48 hours, but he has failed to take any visible action against the 10 Kuki MLAs. Therefore, he must resign as the Speaker of the Assembly, she said.
Until the public demands are met, people will continue to stage protests and launch agitation, she added.
The womenfolk condemned the brutal murder of six women and children who were taken hostages by the Kuki militants from Jiribam district on November 11.
They demanded effective crackdown against the Kuki militants responsible for the killing of the six innocent women and children.
