Items kept for us looted by mob : Inmates

IMPHAL, Nov 20 : Inmates taking refuge at three relief camps in Thangmeiband have claimed that the mob which vandalised the residence of MLA Kh Joykisan on November 16 took away edible items and clothes which were meant for them.
Speaking to the media at the relief camp set up at Thangmeiband Khuyathong Tombisana High School today, the inmates continued that MLA Joykisan was not at his home at the time when a large number of people stormed his residence on November 16.
Saying that the people furious over the murder of three  women and three children started vandalising the house soon after they found out the MLA was outside Manipur, the inmates said that they begged the mob to not torch the house as edible items and clothes which were to be distributed to them were also kept there.
They further said that the mob, apart from torching the house and several items, also looted clothes, socks and bags of potato, garlic and onion which were bought for distribution to people in relief camps.
The inmates further said that several documents for internally displaced people were also destroyed in the attack.
Saying that the mob not only didn't listen to them but also assaulted some of the displaced women, they claimed that some from among the protesting men pushed the displaced women who tried to pacify the situation and the same amounts to sexual assault.
The inmates further claimed that some from among the mob also took off a shawl from one of the women inmates and the same was very unfortunate.
They further said that edible items for the relief camps at Khuyathong were Items meant for us
kept at the residence of the MLA for convenience.
Saying that the mob also pelted stones at another relief camp set up at Thangmeiband Thigel apart from hurling abusive tones at the inmates, they added that they never thought fellow Meiteis would hurt them taking refuge in relief camps.
They claimed that the mob stormed the residence of the MLA with the intention to loot.
Notably, three relief camps are being opened in Thangmeiband under the supervision of Joykisan.
