MU Inter College Badminton Tournament Manipur University to play Imphal College in women's title clash

IMPHAL, Oct 8 : Manipur University will face off against Imphal College in the women's title clash of the Chongtham (O) Rajkumari Tamphasana Memorial Manipur University Inter College Badminton (M&W) Tournament 2024-25 being hosted by Naorem Birahari College, Khundrakpam at its indoor hall.
The second day of the tournament also saw completion of the semi-final line up of the women's competition with Liberal College and Imphal College securing first round victories against Biramangol College and Naorem Birahari College respectively.
In the first match of the 6-team tournament, Liberal College, Luwangsangbam won 2-0 against Biramangol College, Sawombung to set up a semi-final date with Manipur University.
Selina Khumanthem of Liberal College earned the college's lead by defeating Shijagurumayum Bhumika of Biramangol College 18-21, 21-16, 21-14 before Selina Khumanthem and Kiran completed the win by defeating Palmei Gairalung and Sh Bhumika Devi 21-10, 21-9 in the doubles event.
In the second match, Imphal College sealed a 2-0 win over Naorem Birahari College, Khundrakpam to set up a semi-final date with SK Women's College.
Imphal College took the lead courtesy of Soraisam Kanchan who beat Priya Luxmi Laishram of Naorem Birahari College 21-3, 21-0 before Soraisham Kanchan and M Christina sealed a 21-7, 21-7 win over the pair of Priya Luxmi and P Alisha in the doubles event to make it 2-0.
In the first semi-final match, Manipur University beat Liberal College 2-0.
Manipur University earned the 1-0 lead as Sweta Loitongbam got the better of Selina Khumanthem of Liberal College 21-15, 21-15 before Mercy Thoudam and Sofia Thokchom confirmed the 2-0 win with a 21-7, 21-5 win over Liberal College's Naoroibam Kiran and Selina Khumanthem.
In the second semi-final match, Kanchan Soraisham of Imphal College registered a 21-10, 21-13 win over SK Women's College Soibam Priyalakshmi to go up 1-0 but SK Women's College's pair of Selina Haorungbam and Soibam Priyalakshmi drew level with a 14-21, 21-15, 21-10 comeback win against Happy Khundongbam and Kanchan Soraisham.
In the deciding singles match, Happy Khundongbam won 21-20, 8-21, 21-19 against Charane of SK Women's College to seal the match 2-1 and set up the final date with Manipur University.
Men's : Mangolnganbi College, Pole Star College enter semis
In the men's first quarterfinal match, Mangolnganbi College edged out spirited Thambal Marik College by 3-2 margin.
Mangolnganbi College opened the lead through RK Alen who beat Shesen Sagolshem of Thambal Marik College 21-7, 21-4 in the first singles match but Thambal Marik fought back and drew level with Tongbram Bonson beat L Mangal of Mangolnganbi College 21-13, 21-12 in the second singles match.
Mangolnganbi College's pair of H Romenkumar and RK Alen beat Tongbram Bonson and Pritamkumar Oinam 21-14, 21-19 to regain the lead in the doubles event but Thambal Marik College rallied to level again thanks to Shasen Sagolshem who win 22-20, 19-21, 21-11.
In the deciding doubles match, Mangolnganbi's RK Ringso and Kh Davidson pulled off a 21-16, 21-16 win over Shasen and Bikash Yumnam to seal the game 3-2 and book the semi-final ticket.
Later in the second quarter-final match, Pole Star College Wabagai thumped Biramangol College 3-1 to earn a semi-final ticket. Biramangol College reached the quarterfinal with a 3-0 win over Manipur Institute of Technology yesterday.
Kongjengbam Ngamba of Pole Star College defeated M Rajiv of Biramangol College 21-1, 21-4 to open the lead before Jomi Singam of Biramangol College beat Chirom Vickson 21-11, 14-21, 21-14 and pulled level.
In the following doubles competition, Pole Star College's K Ngamba and H Ronel won 21-2, 21-2 against Malemnganba and Rajiv of Biramangol College to retain the lead before Chingangbam Ritesh sealed the victory with a 21-12, 21-14 win over N Abhinash of Biramangol College.
