IMPHAL, Oct 20 : The World Meetei Council (WMC) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a plea to  appoint another person who can restore normalcy in  the State as the Chief Minister in place of the incumbent N Biren Singh.
In a memorandum signed by its chairman Heigrujam Nabashyam, the Council said  that Manipur deserves a responsible Government.
Saying that the people of Manipur are in a state of utter confusion and distress due to the prevailing circumstances, the WMC said  that neither the Chief Minister nor anyone else has taken responsibility for the chaos that has been plaguing the State for over 17 months.
Claiming that the unrest in Manipur appears to be tacitly permitted by the Central Government for reasons that are evident to those who can think critically, the Council added that the Central agencies know what triggered the unrest in Manipur and also have the capacity to resolve it.
The presence of the over 60,000 Central security personnel seems ineffective to restore normalcy in Manipur as they allegedly keep watching the assault on Meetei villages by Chin-Kuki militant groups under Suspension of Operation pact, the WMC continued and added that the conduct of Indian Army undermines their reputation and it harms 'our National interest.'
The Army has the capability to swiftly intervene and prevent attack on Meetei villages, but they don't get the necessary orders, the Council added.
Maintaining that the State Government has failed to communicate critical information to the Central Government to restore peace, the WMC said that the people of Manipur have suffered immensely due to the abject inefficiency of the current Chief Minister.
"People have become refugees in their own homeland," it said and asked whether the people of Manipur don't deserve a Government that is accountable and responsible?
In light of these pressing issues, the World Meetei Council urged the Prime Minister to consider the urgent need to  form a capable and accountable Government in Manipur.
Saying that the Chief Minister is unable to restore normalcy even after 17 months, the Council maintained that appointing a new leader may be able to restore normalcy in Manipur.
