TKLI urges regular VC for MTU

IMPHAL, Oct 20: The Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal (TKLI) has urged the authority concerned to appoint a regular Vice Chancellor or reinstate the previously appointed Vice Chancellor of Manipur Technical University for the welfare of students and the future of the university.
A press release issued by TKLI said that they would be forced to take up measures to ensure that justice is delivered if their appeal goes unheeded.
There has been no appointment of a regular VC of Manipur Technical University since the cancellation of the appointment of the previous VC by the Manipur High Court on January 27, 2023. The current VC of Mani-pur Technical University is also serving as the VC of Dhanamanjuri University and also Commissioner of University and Higher Education.
The current Registrar of Manipur Technical University is also serving as the Director MOBC while the Assistant Registrar in-charge is also the Finance Officer of the university on deputation, the TKLI said.
There has been a void in the administrative set up which has made smooth functioning of the university practically impossible. This is proven by the fact that even after eight years of its establishment in 2016, higher courses like MTech, PhD etc are not available in the university, it said.
The TKLI said that it is dismayed by this culture of rampant interim appointments of bureaucrats in educational institutions and it has negatively impacted the students on a large scale.
This culture of putting the future of students at risk for temporary convenience of the Government is nothing short of careless short-sightedness on the part of the Government, it added.
